Linseed oil for wood.

In our life, wood is a very important material: houses are built from it, furniture, doors and windows are made from it. But, like all natural materials, it is subject to negative influences, both natural phenomena and living organisms (insects, bacteria and fungi), and as a result, needs protection, because we all want it to serve us for a very long time, especially Moreover, lately it is not so cheap.

How can you effectively protect a wooden surface?

The answer is simple impregnation for wood. It has long been known that wood has the ability to absorb water (moisture), which is the basis of many problems during its operation: the surface can dry out, cracks appear on it, and ultimately the product deteriorates. This is especially critical for large surfaces: a floor, a wall made of timber, a log house, etc., which will be very difficult to replace.

To solve this problem, you need appropriate impregnation for wood, which will protect it from moisture, the damaging effects of air and sun, as well as various pests.

In any hardware store you will be offered a solid assortment of stains, paints, and varnishes, which, on the one hand, somehow solve the problem, but on the other, harm the health of those who will then come into contact with the wood they have treated.

That is why linseed oil for wood is the best option, since it is well absorbed into the surface without disturbing the structure of the fibers, prevents the absorption of moisture, and does not harm the body. The use of linseed oil as an impregnation has a beneficial effect on the appearance of objects and surfaces made of wood, significantly increases the service life of structures treated with it, and it is also perfectly tinted in any shade. At the same time, the tree is not affected by rot, blue stains or even mold; it certainly will not crack, fade or peel. Although after impregnation a protective film does not form (as, for example, when using varnish), the oil binds well to the wood, to which it transfers its properties, and the wood breathes naturally, without drying out or picking up a lot of moisture.

Advantages of using linseed oil for impregnation:

1. Environmentally friendly product.

2. Perfectly closes all the pores of the wood.

3. It repels water well and prevents the absorption of excess moisture from the air.

4. Gives the surface a beautiful look, emphasizing its texture.

In addition, during the impregnation of wood, some of the substances that make up linseed oil, as a result of contact with air, heat and light, become thick (polymerize), which makes the oil semi-solid. And the more it hardens, the higher its protective qualities.

After oil treatment, the wooden surface must dry for some time to absorb the protective substances as much as possible. Moreover, it is believed that only after two weeks the impregnated wood dries completely. Although this process can be accelerated by adding turpentine, tar or beeswax to the oil. But when using turpentine, you need to take into account that sometimes it can cause allergies. Tar has an unpleasant odor, so wax is the best choice.

If you need to treat external wooden surfaces, then you need to use pure linseed oil, as it is highly concentrated, absorbs quickly and deeply, and also repels dirt. In addition, it is versatile and relatively inexpensive.

Impregnation with linseed oil can be carried out in the following ways:

1. Rubbing.

2. Soaking.

3. Impregnation in boiling oil by immersion,

Rubbing should be carried out only along the wood grain, since this treatment of wood with linseed oil ensures optimal deep penetration into the surface and also eliminates minor damage. And for small items, soaking is better, in which the item is completely immersed in wood oil for several hours, after which the item should be completely dry.

It is ideal to use linseed oil for impregnating wood not only in the southern regions of Ukraine, such as Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Kherson, but also in more humid and colder regions: in the west and north of the country.

The surface to be treated should be dried and cleaned of old coating. To speed up drying, the oil can be boiled twice and mixed thoroughly before application. Next, you should apply the wood impregnation with a brush along the grain, as if rubbing it in, which will ensure deeper penetration. As a rule, apply at least two layers, allowing drying after each application. Unabsorbed oil is removed with a cotton rag, and then the surface is polished with wax.
